This past weekend, Foggy Ultimate hosted its first-ever Tampon Tournament in Saint John, bringing together nine teams from across the Maritimes. The event not only featured competitive play but also supported Code Red, a local initiative that collects and distributes period products to marginalized, low-income, and unhoused individuals.

About the Tournament
The inaugural tournament was hosted on October 3 at the Irving Oil Field House in Saint John. The women’s tournament, for female-matching players (FMPs), brought together teams from across New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia, with more than 100 women in attendance.
The tournament was held in support of Code Red, a volunteer initiative founded to address period poverty by collecting and distributing free menstrual products to marginalized, low-income, and unhoused individuals. Code Red aims to remove financial barriers and reduce the stigma around menstruation. The products collected during the tournament will be distributed throughout the community to help ensure people in Saint John have access to the products they need.
Supporting Code Red was a natural fit for the tournament. One of Foggy Ultimate’s founding members volunteers with the organization, and when tournament planning began, the opportunity to support period equity in the community was quickly embraced by the group.

What started as a suggestion during a leadership brainstorming session quickly grew into a fully realized event, thanks to the collaborative and supportive nature of the team. As a member of the leadership group explained, “Working with this group of FMPs has been incredibly supportive. Everyone feels comfortable contributing ideas and taking on tasks, which has made planning this event both easy and exciting. When Foggy Ultimate has an idea, we do our best to make it happen!”
The tournament was supported by three local sponsors: SheRad, a women-owned mountain biking and adventure business; Work Water, a local energy and hydration company; and Canace Po, a local mortgage specialist and fellow Foggy member.
About Foggy Ultimate
Foggy Ultimate is an FMP ultimate frisbee league based in Saint John. The organization’s goal is to create a space for people of all experience levels to learn and develop their skills in an environment where they feel comfortable and supported by their community.
Through surveys, feedback, and ongoing conversations with players, Foggy values understanding community needs and creating opportunities that reflect those needs. The organization strives to create opportunities that work for everyone, whether they’re picking up a disc for the first time or looking to continue developing their competitive skills. Above all, Foggy prioritizes creating a community where people feel comfortable showing up and trying something new.
Foggy Ultimate hosted its first league this past spring, which sold out. Since then, they have hosted a variety of single-night events and are currently planning leagues for the upcoming year. While Foggy leagues are typically recreational, single-night events are geared toward more competitive play. Offering different levels of play allows the organization to support and encourage new players while still providing experienced players with opportunities to challenge themselves.
As one Foggy member described, “We value working hard, but we also value our time together and having fun while we play and practice. You can almost guarantee that someone will show up in their skort, the music will be playing, and we will be laughing and sweating on the field.”
After a successful first season, Foggy Ultimate hopes to continue expanding opportunities for FMPs and building a supportive community on and off the field. They also hope to make the Tampon Tournament an annual event, so stay tuned!
